Sony WH-CH720N Review: Lightweight Noise Cancelling Headphones for £64.99
The Sony WH-CH720N is a lightweight pair of over-ear wireless headphones with active noise cancelling, long battery life and the convenience of connecting to two devices. At the reported price of £64.99, down from £74.99, the black version is worth a look if you want everyday headphones without paying premium flagship prices. That is a £10 reduction, or around 13% off the stated previous price. Check the current listing before buying because online prices can change.
What makes the Sony WH-CH720N worth considering?
The WH-CH720N is designed for daily listening: commuting, working at a desk, travelling, watching videos or enjoying music at home. Sony combines active noise cancelling with an over-ear fit, Bluetooth connectivity and controls built into the headphones. The main attraction is the balance of features rather than a single headline specification.
They are also notably light at approximately 192g. A lighter headset can feel less tiring during longer listening sessions, although comfort is personal and depends on head shape, glasses and how tightly the earcups fit. If possible, check the return policy in case the fit is not right for you.
Noise cancelling for commuting and focus
Sony uses Dual Noise Sensor technology and its Integrated Processor V1 to help reduce surrounding noise. Active noise cancelling is useful for taking the edge off steady sounds such as the rumble of a train, a fan or background office noise. It does not make every sound disappear, and sudden voices or sharp noises may still be audible.
There is also an Ambient Sound mode, which lets more of the outside world through when you need awareness of your surroundings. This is handy when listening for an announcement or having a quick conversation. As with any headphones, lower the volume and remain alert around traffic and other hazards.
Battery life that suits long days
Sony rates the WH-CH720N for up to 35 hours of listening with noise cancelling switched on, or up to 50 hours with noise cancelling off. Actual battery life varies with volume, settings, connection conditions and use. Even so, the quoted figures mean many people should be able to use them over several days before needing to recharge.

Quick charging is useful when you have forgotten to top them up. Sony states that a three-minute charge can provide up to 60 minutes of playback under its specified conditions. The package includes a USB charging cable; check the product listing for the exact box contents and remember that a mains adaptor may not be included.
Connect to your phone and laptop
Bluetooth 5.2 provides wireless connection to compatible devices. Multipoint connection allows the headphones to be connected to two Bluetooth devices at once, such as a laptop and a phone. That can make it easier to switch from a video call on your computer to a call on your mobile without repeatedly pairing the headphones.
For calls, Sony includes Precise Voice Pickup technology, beamforming microphones and a structure designed to reduce wind noise. These features are intended to help your voice come through more clearly, but performance can still depend on background noise, network quality and how the headphones sit.
Sound quality and everyday listening
The WH-CH720N uses Sony’s Digital Sound Enhancement Engine, known as DSEE, to help restore some high-frequency detail in compressed audio. The headphones are intended for general listening rather than specialist studio monitoring. Music preference is subjective, so if you like to adjust your sound, explore the available equaliser settings in Sony’s companion app.
These are closed-back over-ear headphones, which can make them a practical choice for personal listening in shared spaces. Keep in mind that noise cancelling and sound quality are different things: noise cancelling reduces certain external sounds, while the drivers and audio processing shape what you hear.

What to consider before you buy
At £64.99, the feature set looks appealing, but it is worth checking a few details before placing an order:
- Confirm the live price: Make sure the listing still shows £64.99 and compare the delivery cost and seller details.
- Choose the right colour: This article covers the black model. Product pages may also show blue, pink or white versions.
- Think about fit: A light design helps, but earcup size, clamping force and glasses can affect comfort.
- Set expectations for noise cancelling: It reduces some background noise but is not complete silence.
- Check what is in the box: Review the listing for the included cables and whether a charging adaptor is supplied.
- Consider your main use: Multipoint is useful for switching between work and personal devices; if you need specialist gaming features or the strongest possible noise cancelling, compare alternatives first.
Is £64.99 a good price?
The reported £64.99 price is £10 below the stated £74.99 previous price. A discount percentage alone does not prove that something is the cheapest it has ever been, so use the reduction as a reason to check the offer rather than a guarantee of the best historical price. Compare the current Amazon listing with other reputable UK retailers and make sure the exact model and colour match.
If you are ready to compare the offer with your budget, check the latest price for the Sony WH-CH720N on Amazon UK before you buy.
If the price remains at £64.99 and you want lightweight over-ear headphones with active noise cancelling, multipoint connectivity and a long quoted battery life, the WH-CH720N is a sensible model to shortlist. If the price has risen, it may be worth waiting or comparing other options.
Our verdict
The Sony WH-CH720N offers a useful mix of comfort-focused lightweight construction, active noise cancelling, Ambient Sound mode, long battery life and two-device Bluetooth connectivity. Its appeal is strongest for everyday listening, commuting and hybrid work rather than for buyers who need every premium feature available.
At the reported £64.99 price, it is worth checking if those are the features you need. Confirm the live price, seller, delivery details and return terms before buying.
